 Joined up recently as this seemed to be the place I was gleaning the most info from as I start to setup my new aquarium.

 

I had a 75g cichlid tank setup for 6 years, and a 29g salt setup for a couple, but when I moved in with my now wife, I took the tank down and sold it, we did not have the time, money, or room to do much with aquariums the past few years. (apartments suck!)

 

Fast forward a couple years, and I am just getting ready to close on my first home. the current owner has a 90g saltwater setup running in between the living and dining rooms, and has built in a area to house the tank more flush with the wall and out of the way. nothing else would really fit this area very well, and I have been talking about getting back into the hobby recently anyways, so I guess now is the time!

 

I liked the last tanks, but still don't have as much time as I would want to spend on a salt setup, plus I am a hardcore sportsmen, and would love to have a more native tank in the house. I am starting the build on my stand/hood here in the next week or so, and am looing for a 90g tank.

 

im still researching livestock, but I am really leaning towards some dollar or northern longears, with some thing else as well.

Heck yeah. Add some cyprinids, and you will have a pretty easy tank. If you need darters, (who wouldn't) you will spend a bit more time feeding.

 If your sunfish are large enough, you could always add a grass pickerel, and plan on replenishing your cyprinids regularly. Sounds fun.

The pickerel would be awesome! Maybe a future plan.

I didn't think any cyprinids would last with sunfish,, figured that was a no go. Glad to hear it's possible!

I'd love 4-5 dollars, or mix of dollars and long ears, a few darters, and some smaller schooling fish. That would be great!

Where in eastern WA are you? Could be some cool natives in the streams near you. When I lived in that region I wasn't yet aware of the diversity of native fishes.
