my wife wants to get me a small underwater camera, but we don't know what to buy, looking for something about 300 or less,
urgent camera recommendation.

The Olympus TG-5 is probably currently the best waterproof compact camera, but it is a little above your price range ($400).

While Isaac is right about what is likely the best... I have found the Nikon will do everything you need in most situations. And fits your budget. Its the one I used for years.
