Hi all.  Been a while.  Re-doing some things in my 150 gal stream tank.

Need ideas for a canister filter, thought I saw people talking about Fluvial?

Want a high flow, easy to clean set up.

Going to route that through my lobster tank chiller on the way back to the tank.

Thanks.

I've had Eheim and fluval canister filter setups. Those are the two big names in terms of quality canister filters as far as I know. They both seem to do a decent job in terms of filtration, but I definitely like the fluvals better. I find the Fluvals just easier to set up and use, I especially like how they have a priming pump you use to start it as opposed to Eheim where you have to suck one end of the hose. I just feel that the Fluvals also are easier to set up with media, the baskets are pretty convenient. Additionally, I like how the flow control lever is on the canister head instead of inline. I bought a new 307 for my 75 gallon last week and I had to turn it to the lowest fow setting - it does have a lot of flow.

That being said, one of the downsides of Fluval is that it is more difficult to add things in line with it because it comes with ribbed hose material instead of regular vinyl tubing.

I had the Fluval FX6 on my 150 stream tank years ago.  I had easily 60-80 fish in there....sm/med shiners and darters.  The canister filter did a good job in my opinion.  It does take some time to clean out all the components, and a new one will set you back over $300.

Agree on the FX6, I have one on a fairly heavily stocked 125. Takes a bit to clean but well worth it.

I have a Fluval 405 that I got a few years ago for free.  I've been happy with it.  I like the set up for media, with the removable boxes.  I'd say that the only issue that I have each time I go to clean it, is that the top is difficult for me to remove.  I eventually get it open, but I can't tell you how many bad words it takes before it finally opens, I lost count.  I wish that they used standard tubing, and I'm too  lazy to convert mine, just because they're a pain to clean, and I'd like to install a DIY spray bar.  I had my own spray bar on there, but, eventually, it leaked and flooded my floor (the connection).  I bought some standard tubing and plan to do something about the to add my spray bar again.  It's on my to do list.
