Northern Michigan water snake prey

Hi All:   

 

Could you please help id this one, if possible.    I came across a northern water snake eating this fish.   These images are not the greatest quality but I thought someone here might have a good guess.   I thought maybe a nine spined stickleback or a trout perch.  This was from Charlevoix, Michigan.   Thanks for any help!

I'm no expert, but that thin caudal peduncle and big eye does at least suggest a stickleback.
