Hi all,

I am a graduate researcher at the University of Minnesota whose project would be greatly benefited by having access to 1-cell stage fathead minnow embryos. I was thinking in vitro fertilization would be the easiest route to them, but I have had trouble getting milt from male fatheads. I am wondering if anyone here has stripped fatheads or knows of someone who has that I could talk to about their protocol?

Fish I have worked with that are not egg scatterers tend not to produce copious volumes of milt. Therefore, with species like Fathead Minnows, I would sacrifice male, remove and mince gonads and before diluting and using milt to fertilize eggs.

Find ways for people not already interested in natives to value them.

Good insight, thank you!
