Hi everyone! Long time no post. I am looking for a fish to 'hire' for mosquito control in some above ground container ponds up here in southern Maine from April to October. I have been leaning towards mudminnows, but I am also interested in mummichogs...would I be able to keep mummichogs outside for that length of time up here? Anything else I should know about keeping them? What I found with some quick research is that they eat anything, spawn readily, and are very hardy, and don't need a large amount of salt in the water to be happy in spite of their estuarine habitats in the wild (I was going to use 1/2 tsp marine salt per gallon, which - in my experience - is fine for plants). I was shooting for the above two fish because they are large enough not to be eaten by dragonfly larvae as adults. Thanks!

Yes, I think they'd do the job, unless of course they jump out in the first few days.  Might be good to put a screen cover on until they get settled in.

Yeah, I was going to use such a screen anyways, chiefly to keep little kids from getting hurt in the water garden.
