I've got a few wild-caught Golden Shiners that so far don't seem to have eaten anything for me. I've tried tropical fish flakes, frozen brine shrimp, and frozen bloodworms.

They're in a tank with some darters that feed avidly, and I thought that would help the shiners learn to eat these things, but so far it doesn't look like it.

Any suggestions?

I take it back--they are finally eating the tropical flakes!

I am surprised. Shiners are usually quick to take flake. Some even day one in captivity. I've never kept wild caught golden shiners. How many days before they started eating?

My spotfin shiners took flake food within 2 hours of being put in the tank. Shiners, like the bluntnose minnows seem to take flake food quickly. If no success, let them get good and hungry. Within a day or two they'll figure it out.

I've kept several wild caught golden shiners for a couple years now. I'm not sure there's anything they won't eat.
