So, as I was leaving yesterday afternoon to go on a recon mission, I got a call from Kentucky fish and wildlife. I was really excited to find that our group qualified for a educational collection permit. Today I spoke to the fisheries director, and he said there is no reason whatsoever that we will not be awarded this permit. So guys, your $30 license fee has now dropped to $10 for the entire group. Thats like 2 bucks each. If anyone wants to fish rod and reel, this permit covers that also.
Next, I drove to our campsite, and spent last night there. Very nice! Woke up this morning and scouted out sampling locations. This was somewhat abbreviated as I needed to get home to work on these permits.
Attached are a couple of photos, one of my campsite, the second is the middle fork. This is the same location where 10 species of darters were found in the sampling data I sent out. Last photo is War fork, the stream in the campground.

I'm really stoked for this trip. Those streams sure look inviting Matt.....I can't wait.

Okay, by now you guys realize that I have put alot of energy into this trip. But I have in my limited time down there only IDed a few bigger stream sites, I could not get around to too many small stream sites. So those with the distribution info, and a particular interest, please put it up.

Permit has been approved. I am awaiting a fax. Unless they modified the permit, we should also be allowed the usage of 20 foot seines, which will hopefully allow us to view, and photo some of the harder to collect fish.

Are you going to bring waders at all? I was hoping to pass on them, but if we're going to any spots that have a very soft (muck) bottom, my water shoes get stuck.

No, we really won't be in any muck, unless we find some that is tempting. I am bringing snorkel gear.

I'll be bringing them. I may not use them, probably not. It's supposed to be in the low- to mid-90's all weekend. I'll sweat my keyster off in the waders, and get just as wet as if I had gone in without them. But better to have them and not need them, than to need them and not have them.
