The City of Gresham, Oregon (near Portland) has the following monitoring and analysis position available.

Watershed Management Division
Salary: $40,968 to $57,936 Yearly DOQ

The City of Gresham is seeking to fill an existing position that will assist the City in fully complying with DEQ requirements to control stormwater pollution from new and existing development.

Position: This position will serve within the Water Resources Section of the Watershed Management Division; formerly known as the Stormwater Division. The work involves applying advanced scientific and technical knowledge in the area of water resources, and requires extensive coordination with team members. The position also creates and administers programs and projects under limited supervision. Key responsibilities include: 1) Designing and implementing water quality studies; collecting samples, managing data, performing statistical analyses, and writing reports; 2) Tracking and modeling pollutant load reductions; 3) Detecting illicit discharges and causing their elimination; 4) Coordinating the City?s Columbia Southshore Wellfield Wellhead protection program; and, to a lesser extent 5) Inspecting for the adequacy of erosion prevention practices and water quality treatment facilities at development sites. Many components of this position support state and federal

regulations and associated stormwater permits.

Qualifications: Typically, the background for this position would be gained through an undergraduate and graduate degree and three to five years? experience in a field related to the work, such as environmental sciences. Experience sampling streams and outfalls for water quality, and setting up automated samplers is desired, as is knowledge of Quality Assurance/Quality Control practices. Experience designing studies and evaluating data using basic nonparametric statistics is also desired. Knowledge and skills in the principals and practices of Erosion Prevention and Sediment Control (EPSC) is a plus, but may be gained on the job. Communication and interpersonal skills must be adequate to inspire members of the public to change their behavior voluntarily or through enforcement action, and to coordinate monitoring activities with others. Project management skills are needed, along with writing skills, and the ability to use computer software programs such as Outlook, Word

, Excel, and Access. Proficiency with Minitab or other statistics software is a plus. A valid driver?s license and good driving record is required. The successful applicant will be able to lift up to 50 pounds, and will have flexibility to work occasional nights and weekends to sample stormwater runoff.

Oregon State University is actively reviewing applications for the
Oregon Sea Grant Director position. The submission deadline is 11/15/2007.

Oregon State University is seeking qualified applicants to succeed Dr.
Robert Malouf, who is retiring after 17 years as director of the Oregon
Sea Grant Program. The director provides overall leadership for Oregon
Sea Grant, and oversees a total annual budget of approximately $5M, and
approximately 60 staff and faculty who carry out research,
administrative, communication and outreach services. He/she reports to
the OSU Vice President for Research. A terminal degree with
professional experience and a record of excellence in research/ scholarship, policy,
and/or management in marine, coastal, natural resources or a related
field are required. Candidates should have significant experience with
natural resource issues. Preference will be given to candidates with a
demonstrated commitment to the Land Grant/Sea Grant concept of
research, education, and outreach.
