I have been asking some higher ups in the ODNR about what it would take for me to be able to breed listed species in captivity and got the actual Ohio code sent to me with highlighted sections.

smbass, I believe that ruling and fines for various protection levels just came out a few months ago. I remember something like that circulating here at work. When you asked the ODNR guys the ruling just may not have been in effect. It may have been mentioned in a recent WildOhio magazine.

This would make sence, because I can't imagine that these two guys I talked to would make a mistake like that, that is why this was such a surprise to me.

Perhaps my protests of the past and in the future will be viewed as helpful rather than an attempt to drive or hack people off ;)

Now to figure out what to do with all these specimens I've collected from healthy populations out of state. <sigh> Sometimes it's just better to not know.... I think I'll move to KY or AL when I'm done with this school thing where I can just let ethics be my guide.

Announcing the GRAND OPENING of the Michael Wolfe Bluebreast Darter Rescue... bring / send me your illegal Bluebreast darters to my beautiful multi-tank rescue project in libertarian Georgia (that's not a city, its a state of being). Here we will care for your beloved blue-breasts, allowing them to live out their days in a high flow tank, complete with luxury accomidattions and gourmet frozen and ive foods...

You know, I was just reading a review of the 25th anniversary release of Deliverance lol

That may just happen Amigo. But I'm betting Jeffro is gonna want a shot at 'em first ;) But not until we check to see if there's a MI state line rule. Both he and I are too "high exposure" to risk anything.

Sheesh. You try and do the most ethical and lawful thing and where does it get you? <sigh>

I'm just glad Brian found this all out before we went and did whatever it was that we felt was prudent. And honestly... As much as I'm annoyed with it now, I do like the law. Makes it nice and tidy. There's still plenty of darters n dace to make our tanks look pretty.

Darters-n-Dace. Man, that would be a sweet "Adult" fish store lol.

Is there room for one more? I can tent in the backyard. I'm a newbie to collecting, farmertodd has been teaching me. He's very patient.

There is plenty of room for more people, I'm not limiting this event to a certain number just need an approximate count to try to accommodate boats for.

Brian, I'm sorry I won't be there to support this outing, esp after pitchin' a fit about the Darby Distraction ™. I have to go to TN that weekend to get data, and there's no other weekend I can do that before our grant cycle comes up with NSF. I've guarded that weekend viciously until now, but there's no other way to get around it (because every other weekend got scheduled as a result). So thank you for planning it, I'm the real loser here :)

Brian,

Great news: I'm definitely in.

Bad news: I just broke my camera taking shots of a breeding condition Central/Northern Quillback out of the Portage River.

More great news: I managed to get these shots before the camera gave up...

I will be doing some final scouting work this weekend and then picking definite sites for the weekend after a little more exploring. I'll need to come up with an official list of who is coming and how many are bringing their own boats for sunday. I have been very busy with the job change and all but it looks like things are going to fall together nicely for this and we should have a decent turn out.

You've got me listed correctly, Brian. We'll be there for both days. Just tell me where and when to meet you, when you've finalized the plans. Also, will we be stopping for food, or should we pack meals? Will we be cooking out while camping Saturday night (should I bring food to cook), or will we be grabbing some takeout (or eat-in) at the end of the day on Saturday? Basically, what will we need to bring, besides fishing gear, tents, and sleeping bags?

Thanks for putting this together! I look forward to seeing everyone there.

I would prefer that people pack a lunch saturday and definitely sunday so we don't have to be hunting for a place to stop which takes away from sampling time, and it is usually cheeper and healthier than fast food. As far as dinner goes saturday night I think eating out someplace in Mt. vernon would be the simplest thing to do. We can all go as a group or seperately, we can probably just discuss this that day and decide before the evening.
