Alot of European aquatic fauna is long since wiped out because of invasions
"Nonindigenous Crayfishes Threaten North American Freshwater Biodiversity: Lessons from Europe" is a great article ...... Article in Fisheries several years back and makes a great basis and case for proactive/white listing of species compared to what has been done.

It looks proactive to me and not a bad idea. I wish the US would have done something similar.
It is actually a reaction to Epizootic Ulcerative Syndrome (EUS) and not a proactive measure to prevent invasives...
Is EUS an issue here in North America?

Well.. I thought about it after I posted and I used the wrong word. Not sure what word I was looking for.
I was referring in general to issues we are now having with diseases and invasives, not EUS specifically.

If the EU wants to stop invasives they are way late.
But this is for disease protection?
The Directive, which applies to the implementation of the EU legislation in England and Wales, is still in the consultation period and consultees have until March 7 2008 to respond to the proposals.
