So excited!! I just received my 6 5" swordspine snooks (Centropomus ensiferus). If you're a fan of snooks, these are the ones to keep. They're the smallest of the snooks (only reaching a foot), and they have larger iridophores that give their scales a more metallic shine. I'll get pics once they're out of the bags and settled in.

Can't wait to see some pics. How much do I to drop into the collection plate to enter the church of fish next time I visit Starkville?

Here are a couple of pics of the snooks. These guys are hard to take pics of. Out of 24 pics, these are the only 2 that came out (sorta). They're actually smaller than expected. In my opening post, I said they were 5". Once I dropped them out of their mylar wrapped bags, they shrank to 3". I had to put them in a tank I'm growing out a bunch of Karilani fronts in. They would have been torn up in the 150. I also found out that flash pics of a species with more iridophores (gives fish their shine) than it's cousin species is an exercise in futility. I'll have to place extra lights over the tank so I won't have to use the flash.

Nice. Are you keeping them in freshwater?

So far, the 6 are shoaling together when the lights are on. After lights-out, they move their separate ways. Ihave yet to see any aggression towards each other or towards the karilani fronts. They seem to behave much the same way as the Petenia. Meaning, if whatever they're investigating doesn't fit in their mouths, they don't pay it much attention.

Hi, I'm new to this forum. Hello.

I was wondering how your swordspine snook were. I have one in my tank, and I rarely see him eat. I've seen him eat maybe 2 ghost shrimp and 2 killifish in 4 months. The man at the pet store said he should be eating every shrimp or small fish as soon as they are dropped in the tank, or there is a problem.

Do your snook eat fish like a dog eats scraps?

Thanks.

Mason, Oddball is not too frequently around, you will probably get a faster response by PMing him.

Sorry to dig up this old thread, Oddball, but do you still have the swordspines?

Justin
