Summary:
The shellfish were removed from a bridge demolition site to protect them during the demolition work, with the intent of restoring them to their original location when the work was done. They bred while being cared for in a West Virginia fish hatchery. When it was discovered, the larvae were collected and cultivated, and now the babies are being restored along with the parents. It is apparently a first of its kind event. Hopefully, this will be the first of many successful restoration events.
