Through conversations I have had with NYS DEC regarding the locations of redfin pickerel in NYS (grass are a subspecies of redfin so the taxonomists tell us?) I was told that they can be found anywhere in the St. Lawrence drainage. Obviously this a a very large drainage area. I was directed to some backwater bays/vegetaed ponds, etc. behind barrier walls, just about anywhere on the Lake Ontario shoreline. Not very helpful, I know. Try anywhere hydraulically connected to the St. Lawrence or Lake Ontario in heavily vegetated areas.

To give you a visual, this is where I was directed (click on the option for "Aerial")
