If you were invited here by one of us, please register and post in here. Any help you can give us will help a bunch.

Looks good so far. I have been working/studying in an ichthyology museum/lab of fisheries research lab for the past five or six years. Its nice to see a site that focuses on our natives, most fish keepers don;t know what they are missing. If there is anything I can do to help just let me know.

Thanks for stopping by and checking it out. We are just looking for different points of view of what we have setup so far. Do you think it is enough? too much?

You could have a small section on fishing, but that may lay out of the scope of you site.

What about a brackish/saltwater section?

This is something that will be added in time. I think few of the Brackish/saltwater fish are not already covered here. Most people that keep lookdowns (for instance) don't even realize these are natives and will hit tropical forums for thier info.

Yeah, I have yet to see anyone on any board with a good native salt setup, seems that even people near the coast would rather pay $100 for a fish then get their own. Hopefully I will have mine setup soon.

When we do finally get a salt/brackish setup, we will be looking at you coastal/gulf folks to help maintain it.

We may add a sports fishing section in the future but it will be a strictly Catch & Release forum as we are pushing conservation.

The brackish section is actually a great idea. I did some coursework a few years ago that involved seining an estuary, and I couldn't believe the diversity of the fish we pulled up. I would definitely be interested in trying to keep a few of those species, especially a few of the killifish.

BTW, is anyone interested in talking algae and native aquatic plants?

There is a forum down there somewhere about native aquarium/aquatic plants. Have fun with it. :D

I think the directory structure is a bit too complex? Too many forums. FWIW. Except there is no politics and religion forum :D

What do you think could be eliminated to streamline the structure?

Hello everyone, I am Dean. I was invited here by Skipjack as we had some recent business. He sent me a great pair of bowfin that are happily cohabiting with a largemouth bass.

To this point I've kept mostly sunfish, bullheads and various minnows and darters.

Does anyone here have any experience with live plants?

By the way, this site looks like its going to be great!

Dean

Welcome Dean,

We'll have a moderator just for plants in the native aquaria to answer your questions and or be a sounding board for your ideas.

In years past I kept many planted aquaria but before the boom. Much of my plant technique and infomation is outdated. Most os the plants I kept were sold as "tropical".

I look forward to native plant discussion in the future.

Hello all,

Just got my invite from dsmith73. I must say that this is the style forum that I have been waiting for! I have... let's see... 124 unread NANFA digests in my inbox. I just can't keep up!

As far as improvements to the forum, I can think of a few:
- a "new members" welcome section

- a linkie thingie that can direct you to threads/posts that you haven't read yet (if you are logged in), or to today's posts (if not logged in). I have seen this before on other sites, and it is a HUGE help when trying to see what is going on - you don't have to open every forum to see if anything's new!

- a link to a member's profile where their user name is given in the left (author) section.

- a place in member's profiles where information can be reserved for registered members. In fact, one idea would be to make the profiles/member lists viewable only by logged-in members.

Anyway, for those who don't know me, my interests are native plants (terrestrial and aquatic), native fish, fly fishing (my new, very addictive hobby), hiking. Just about anything dealing with the natural environment.

Hope to see a lot of activity on this forum!!!

Laura

Weclome to NF.us. I'm glad you could stop by and check out our new site.

This "Genesis" forum will probably turn into a welcome section after a week or so

"View posts since last visit" can be found on the upper right on the main page

There is an icon below each post that should be labeled "Profile".

I can take a look at the profile issue. Most of the information is not required so I figured if users don't want to share, they don't have to.

This forum software isn't used as much on the web so there are a few quirks people may not be used to. Just let me know what you guys want and I will look at implementing it.

Glad to have you on board. We have a forum dedicated to native plants that needs some content so have fun with it.
