Hi everybody,
I was putting together a display for Bass Pro Shops in Cincinnati and was looking for a picture of a Shovelnose Sturgeon. At one point I had taken a bunch of pictures of some adult ones I captured in Wisconsin...but I did something to the pictures, resized them for something, and I can't get them looking acceptable anymore. I was wondering if anyone here had a picture of an adult Shovelnose Sturgeon that they would like to share. PM me to discuss details.

Thanks,
Nate

Nate,

I have these here: http://gallery.nanfa.../acipenseridae/

I thought I took better photos when we were at ASIH 2007, but I guess I only got video. Let me know if you don't run into something better, I'll round up the high res images.

What were the sturgeon that they seined up at the missouri convention? There are several folks (including probably me) that have some good photos of those guys?

Thanks, Todd. I was hoping to get a full shot of one. A side shot of an adult would be ideal.

Nick got some decent pictures: http://gallery.nanfa...bers/nzarlinga/ but they're juvies again.

We can take a still off the film. It won't be the greatest resolution, but it might work if you can't find something else. Sorry I don't have anything better. I guess we just need to round up a big bag seine and go do some runs down the lower Scioto, check for some speckled chub too :)

The other thing that comes to mind is talking to Anna George at the TN Aquarium. She may have pictures of both adult lake sturgeon and shovelnose sturgeon. The lake sturgeon really IS the story in these here parts. Gary Lowry at Maumee B&T has a pic of the 60 lb female caught during the walleye run in 1998, but I doubt he'll be all that pliable to find it for BPS. You might also talk to Ed Roseman at USGS in Michigan to see if they have any pictures of the lake sturgeon they've been catching on the klinker artificial reefs in the Detroit River. I'll ask my lil bro Ryan at ORSANCO too if he has any.

Thanks Todd,
I will try to contact those people. I'll just add it to the old "to-do" list.

Nate-
If you lake sturgeon photos, I can send you a few of mine if you wish. Just let me know what you are looking for.

I might need a few of those in the near future. Right now a Shovelnose Sturgeon picture is what I'm looking for. I'll PM you when I need to round up a Lake Sturgeon photo. Thanks!!!

Argo has pictures of shovelnose "on a measuring board, two to a hand, flying through the air" etc etc blah blah blah. I'm heading down there next Friday and I'll just copy all his shots (he better have some good tuberculate male Cycleptus too, dangit). He also has the pictures of the new mouth of the Wabash River. I'll put something together about that. That might make a nice AC article after they do the monitoring this spring.

Evidently photos of shovelnose sturgeons are as hard to get as as it is to get fingerlings, I want a ferw of them so bad!

Thanks, pals!!! The next one I'm working on is going on display in Bolingbrook, IL (the Chicagoland area). My brother is a graphic arts designer, so he'll be collaborating with me to give it a "designer's touch".
