Just wanted to see if anybody would be interested in starting a thread that shows all tank shots. Good way to get ideas for new projects and just an overall fun thing to look at. I will start with my 55 and 29.

Do you have an updated pic? I don't generally like bowfront tanks but I think they can look really nice if you do it up right!

I just realized that I took those pics with a borrowed camera that is way better than mine. These new pics suck. I'm going to see if I can borrow that cam again and take more pics.

The 72 gallon with the bowed front looks pretty sweet.

Are you guys using a specific kind of light for your tanks?

My light gives the entire tank a yellowish look that I really don't like. Plus it removes some of the fishes bright colors. Because of this, I usually keep the light off and let sunlight from a nearby windows light it up.

Any recommendations for lighting?

That particular 72G bowfront is using a single Aqua-Glo. In a few months I will be replacing it with an Ott light. The Ott light is T-12, 40W and only costs $10 at Home Depot.

I don't use any special lighting on mine. I just use whatever I got the tank with. Although I would like to get some better lights because I wan't my plants to reach to the top on my 29. But my friend has a light like what you are talking about and I really don't like that color. I think it is just the cheap generic brand at the LFS. Try some newer ones.

Home Depot has compact florescent flood light pendants for around 30 bucks each. They are like 65Watts (box says equivalent to 500W incandescent) and can be set up inside a canopy really easily.
They're what I use on my reef aquariums... A good 6.5k daylight color. If you're looking for good lighting for cheaper, you might want to check these guys out!

Hey Chad...that 29 looks awesome...the gravel...its black right...and is that the fine Lava sand or something like that? I thought I saw them at petsmart....I recently switched to black gravel( I bought the Estes Brand)....and to my dissapointment the quality was not that good...it didnt look totally black and a lot of the gravel weren't completely covered in black so you get whites and other colors...so I am thinking of getting those fine black sand too...
I did have the white fine sand but had problems with it in my 5gal as the fish would sometimes kick the sand and it would get sucked into the intake and sometimes cause the filter to get stuck...
Are those Java Moss attached to the drift wood? looks cool...I just recently tied some to some rocks...still waiting for them to grow...

It is black sand. I am not sure the brand but it was supposed to be for marine I guess. I tried it and it worked fine so...I like it though. I am a fan of sand. I think it just looks really natural.

Looks really good! But I think those plants that are planted are actually bamboo and they are going to die if you don't get part of them above water :-|

Yea I know. I read about that online a day after buying the plants. Kind of makes me mad, since Petco sells them as "aqua plants" for your "aquarium" and there is no mentioning of not being able to submerge them completely in water Seems like false advertisement to me. I haven’t taken them back because I really like how they look. I think I'll just get something new when they start looking bad.

I saw some bamboo at my petco too...thought it was odd that it was completely submerged...it was the green kind...with twisted look....
Anyway hey chad...in your tank those moss look really cool attached to the rock and drift wood...are they java moss? My Java moss seem to just grow wildly...Does it only grow like yours when attached to something? mine are just free floating...

I think that depends on the texture of the rocks. I have some growing on some busted geodes that my boss brought back from a job site in Quincy, Illinois a few years ago. (I would love to get more of these, if there is anybody from the Quincy area who is willing to collect and send me some.) The texture of the exterior of the geodes is quite rough. I used rubber bands to hold the moss on. It has now attached well. I have been tempted to cut the rubber bands, but I don't want to accidentally rip the moss off the geodes in the process.

I haven't tried to trim it yet, so I couldn't answer that question. It's got a lot of growing to do before I even think about that.
