what is with this random root growing halfway up the stalk of this anacharis plant?

do you think if i were to cut the plant right under the root and stick it in the gravel so the root was under the gravel it would spread out?

That's pretty normal...just looking for nutrients.

Mine do the same thing. It's normal growth habit.

Dave,

Yeah, that's normal. Also, if you cut the stem below the root and stick the cutting in the substrate it may grow more roots. Before you cut it, though, pull it up and see if the lower section has roots. It may already be sending roots out in to the gravel. If that's the case, I'd just trim off the root in the middle of the stem and stick the stem back in to the substrate.

The root is a good sign that the plant is happy and getting everything it needs.

the reason i even noticed this was because the piece that was bunched with it came out of the gravel and i had to get this piece (which still had the lead on it) up so i could wrap them together again. thats when i noticed this was a root that was growing out of it, when i previously thought it was a piece of my crypt that got tangled in the plant. there were no other roots on either piece.
