I've been out collecting the past few days and among many other things, I caught what I assumed to be 2 redfin pickerels. Upon closer investigation and further research, however, the look more and more like grass pickerel. I'm in NC and didn't think we had those here. Any thoughts?

We have redfin and chain pickerel throughout the eastern half of NC. No grass pickerel.

Thanks! See, thats what I thought. But I caught one in one area and then the other about 20 minutes away, and after looking closer they are definitely grass pickerel (I think). They both have the light green bar down the middle of their backs that redfins don't have. And I caught them right in the middle of NC.

Get Menhinick's Freshwater Fishes of NC (1990).
The Nat.Sci Museum shop in downtown Raleigh sells it.
