i have a four day weekend so I tried sampling by the stone arch bridge in the Ashuelot River. I didn't bring a camera so I have no pictures from it.
The river was full of minnow fry (not sure what kind). Every netting got me a few and sometimes I got some without trying.
i saw some larger minnows (2-3 inches) but couldn't catch any and even a five incher that evaded me.
In the quieter weedy stretches I saw a couple abandoned sunfish nests but no sunfish,
I also saw a darter but it also evaded capture.
Finally I got a odd 1 inch minnow (maybe slightly bigger) with a brownish back and a spot before the tail fin. When i noticed the downward pointing extendable mouth i realized it was a white sucker and took it for my minnow tank. It is quite rare for me to catch a sucker in a net and it's been a year since i had one.
minor sampling today
