Well, when I fist started looking into native fishes, I was all set to go with rainbow darters or possibly a sculpin set-up. After seeing all the pics of sunnies in this section I have decided that I really want them! They remind me a lot of the cichlids I have kept for so long but they are so beautiful. I am thinking I have it narrowed down to four candidates so far. pumpkinseeds, green sunfish, central longears, or northern longears. I am personnally of the african cichlid approach to this. I am gonna keep the tank stocked heavy and diffuse aggression that way. I have a 55 with tidepool sump, so filtration will be more than adequate (for those of you who don't know, a tidepool is a HUGE biowheel). Now if only it could be spring and I could go out and try to collect some! Also, do any of you know how far north into Minnesota the species I mentioned can be found? I may have to travel a few hours south. Anyway, thanks for getting me all jazzed about fish again. It has been a long time since I was this excited!

Green sunfish are a really nice fish. They act and are shaped a lot like rock bass. Rock bass being my favorite fish makes the green sunfish a very attractive fish to me. I will deffinately include on ein my aquarium once I get a larger tank.

Go for the green ones :)
