I was exploring a new spot on the Delaware river yesterday looking for some Banded Killfish or Spotfin Shiners. I was looking for a good spot to use my dipnet when I saw this fish in the water.

I was surprised when it didn't take off when I approached it but then I noticed that it had a really nasty cut on it's back. I could actually see bone. I reached out with my net but it swam away. I waited a few minutes then I came back and it had returned to the same spot. I managed to catch it this time. I think it was a Brook Trout but I'm not sure.

It's a shame that this wound is probably going to wind up killing the fish.

I didn't catch anything else but seeing this beautiful fish was good enough

I love brookies. It's one thing I miss about living along the Perkiomen as a kid. We had lots of brook trout.

Does it look like a brookie to you Scott? I'm not entirely sure that's what is was.

Yes like a large male stocked brook trout. Doesnt look like a tiger trout which is a hybrid of a brook & a brown.
