You're right, my mistake. The American Fisheries Society previously insisted on single 'i' patronymics regardless of original spelling, while ICZN did not support this. I had the story backwards in my head for some reason.

Having identified and worked with many Guadalupes in the past few years, I have always written treculi. My advisor writes the "ii." I think the single "i" makes more sense, and I guess the AFS agrees wth me. In any case, they both seem to have their merits (as inconsequential as it all is). I'm not about to get in a debate over it. I like the shirt.

Ive decided to flyin to this year's convention.
What is the best way to find the cheapest flight via the internet?
I figure the sooner the better and we are getting close to 2 months away.

I have found the best way is to compare each airline if you are just looking for tickets. For anyone who plans on flying in Dallas Love will be a little closer than DFW, just FYI

Okay I just picked up some big sponsors to donate items for the Auction as well as door prizes. They include Cabelas, Bass-pro Shops, Gander Mountain, Wulf Outdoors, Aquatic Eco-systems, Dr. Fosters & Smith, and also Shakespeare Rod & Reel. Anyones mouth watering yet? So we will have lots to choose from.

I won't be attending the convention this year, but I will be sending down some nifty auction items, including a copy of FISH CONSERVATION by Gene Helfman, and a "Save the Darter" t-shirt, a replica of the very same t-shirt activists wore in the 1970s during the Snail Darter vs. TVA imbroglio.

A replica eh? How did you come up with that? Get me a double X.

I also won't be able to make it this year since it falls during a busy time at my work, but I would really like that shirt. Maybe an online auction would work for it???

Okay got some great news! I have found a mexican resturant that will be sponsoring snacks for the hospitatlity suit. We will have all the chips, salsa, and queso you can handle. Trying to persuade him to give us some guacamole, so we will see. So if you eat queso like i do bring you own shovel.

That sounds great. Just remember everyone bring your stretchy pants.

Well I am opening all kinds of boxes and envelopes with a variety of gifts. Its like CHRISTMAS, except none of them are mine. The raffle is going to be HUGE this year. I just opened a box from Shakespeare and to my surprise it was stuffed with goodies. They sent 2 rod and reel combos. Both have ugly stick rods, and one has skakespeare reel and the other a pflueger. They also sent two tackle bags, an extra pflueger reel, two hats, and some jigs and lures. Oh yeah, and there is much MUCH more to come from other sources. So leave room in your suit cases for all of these awsome raffle items you could be taking home. See ya' soon!!!

More GOOD news!!! I have just lined out our guest speaker for this years conference. It will be one of the authors of Freshwater Fishes of Texas: A Field Guide. For all of those who do not know Texas has been without a field guide for forever, so this was a big accomplishment. So Dr. Tim Bonner or Dr. Bobby Whiteside will be presenting at this years banquet. They will be there also to talk about the second edition that is coming out, as well as giving us some autographed books to put in the auction. Man things keep getting better and better. I am starting to feel bad for the people that can’t make it. So I hope to see everyone there!!!

Was wandering who would mind helping with a few things at the conference. Such as setting at the registration table, helping set up raffle items, a few other things like that. Please email me and let me know, and I will let you know how you could help. We will see y’all soon!!!

I am working on a schedule of presentations, but had one speaker cancel. So I am trying to update that and hopefully post it by the end of the week.

It seems to me that a family trip is considered to be a legitimate excuse. Check with your school. You shouldn't be a slave to the school.

Not only a Family trip but one of Educational Value. Very Ecucational. I would think a reasonable school would let you off for such an ocasion. And Killier I will PM you with a travel offer.

give me another job if you wish wayne our texan host. i could be a chili tester, a money taker, fish scaler, name badge writer or t-shirt stretcher.

2 weeks, 2 days before departure! gotta pack my bag and carry-on backpack and make them security check proof. if a live fish is in plastic bottle surely they would assume it is not an explosive liquid? bad joke, i saw a british demo of tang colored liquid blowing a big hole.
nonetheless im excited about this trip and i just got back from 4 days in sc and north ga snorkeling and cooking redhorse with fresh oysters, apples and peaches. a good year. new fishes.

OKAY Y'ALL ! it is all coming together!!! We are working on posters, name tags, signs, and MUCH MUCH MORE !!! The chili cookoff is already getting heated as we all are exchanging words and glances in passing. We take this mighty serious down here. Casper I have you an Official Tasting bib, but please dont let the fact it looks like a napkin confuse you.

Talked to Dr. Booner yesterday and he is excited to come and talk to us. He might be there Friday night at the social if time permits. He is going to dontate 2 books with all the authors autographs, and will be selling extra copies for people who want them and dont win the auction ones.

The weather is cooling off a bit thanks to the hurricanes, but have no fear Ike is just a tike and the show will go on. I dont board up for anything under a 5, so a 3 just means PARTY!!!!

So places are being scouted, weahter being watched, trash talk is being talked, and the excitment is building. The only thing that is missing is all of y'all, so see y'all in a few weeks.

I'm getting itchy for Texas chili, fishing and fishheads. Will be driving in from DFW with Bob Mueller Thursday night. How's the registration going? Who else is coming? Flying in is a first for me should have come earlier, oh well next year. Does anyone thats attending have some extra breather bags I could purchase, my last order got messed up and can't get before my departure.

I know of about 30 who have already registered. Then I know of about 10 - 15 more that are coming that have not registered plus the people who are going to show up at the door. All in All I would say about 50 - 60 maybe more.

And I cant wait to see everyone.
