Hi, I am new and was wondering what fish are in my area. I really like nano fish, and was hoping I would be able to go catch some (not to keep, just to observe). Does anyone know of smaller sized fish? I have a creek in my area and there is a shallow area with not much current and it seems like a nice place for a fish to live, so I was just curious if you think some might be there. Thanks!
EDIT: Oh, and are there any licenses I need to get if I do want to keep them?

Max there are several fish in our waterways that can be kept in aquariums nothing so small as pygmy sunfish but we do have some beautiful fish such as rainbow, banded and Iowa darters. Orangespotted sunfish are quite beautiful in spawning colors. We also have a variety of dace , shiners, topmminnows and minnows. Yes you will need a fishing license to catch and keep these. And you can check out this site for a list of fish to give you an idea. There are protected fish in the state so be sure to check out the threatened and endangered link also.

WHere in Iowa are you located? I might be able to do some collecting?
