well my fantail eggs have started hatching and right now they are so tiny all i can see are lttle black eyes and a tail. I have them in a 2.5 G tank with small gravel and sand substrate with a small sponge filter. i added green water and there are many little dots moving around on the glass. I have never had fry and would like to know if anyone has good articles or threads on the subject or experience. also the fry that have hatched spend most the time sitting on the bottom of the tank is this normal? I tried to take some pictures but they are too small to focus in on. thanks

Yes. Fantail darters don't have a well developed swim bladder, so sitting on the ground is normal.

My main point of advice is: Keep them fat, with round little bellies. I'm glad they're eating your little dots at the moment; I hope you have a lot of them. As I said in my other post already, microworms are a good first food for bottom dwelling babies. You can also hatch some baby brine shrimp. When they're juveniles they'd probably enjoy some grindal worms.
My second point of advice is: Keep the water clean. As I said in my other post already, a 2.5 gallon tank is asking for trouble. I raise my fry in larger, planted tanks to avoid ammonia poisoning. Fry are very susceptible to ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate, even more than their parents.

Andrew, Fantail fry are large enough to eat newly hatched brine shrimp from the get go. Something else you could try is powdered spiralina or powdered earth worms if the water is circulating well.

Well the water is a little circulated. I was concerned since the fry say on the bottom whether or not they would be able to get the food that is swiiming in the water column. i figured they would be mostly bottom feeders

They still chase the food if the water isn't too fast. They won't go into the middle or upper columns but will grab the food as it circulates past or moves along the bottom.
