I did not have my photo tank with me as I was fishing. These minnows were at the boat ramp so I caught a few while waiting.

I was at Patoka Lake in Southern Indiana.

I was thinking the first & second one might be Bluntnose Minnow Pimephales notatus, OR Bullhead Minnow Pimephales Vigila OR both.

The third one I was thinking might be a small Golden Shiner.

The last one is a Rosey Red, but what is its species? Is it a morph of a Fathead Minnow Pimephales promelas?
Fathead Minnows don't live there according to the range map in Fishes of Indiana by Thomas P. Simon. But it could have been a bait bucket escapee.

What do you think? I only started looking at small minnows after the VA Convention.

Thanks

#3 is a Golden Shiner. The other ones all look like Fathead minnows to me.

And rosy reds ARE indeed just a color morph of the regular fathead minnow.

Tom Simmon's book is a first edition. I personally would just send him some message saying it was there. I found a few mistakes in his book myself that I need to email him when I get a chance.

Do you have another picture of fish #3? All the other ones are fathead minnows.

Nate you dont suppose #3 might be a grass carp or black carp do you?
Mouth is small but it doesn't quite look like a golden shiner.
