Hi everyone,

Just figured out how to use google sketchup. Made a sump design. Was wondering what you guys thought of it.

Water flows from tank using a Herbie overflow>> 1in bulkhead into sump >>through 2 filter socks>> onto a drip tray and into bioballs>> to return pump

I think there's no reason for all those walls. Just fill the box with growing plant tissue and voila! maximized nitrogen sequestration.

The tank itself will be heavily planted. This is to add extra mechanical and biological filtration. The primary reason for the walls would be to keep operating volume lower; so, in the event of a power failure the sump will not overflow.

This is to add extra...biological filtration.

Nitrosomonas bacteria (who eat ammonia) compete with plants (who eat ammonium, which is in equilibrium with ammonia) for food. The two are in direct competition for a limited amount of food. They are not friends. If one eats the other doesn't.
