I took my 5 yr old daughter fishing & we collected a pair (both under same rock) of what I believe are mottled sculpins. I have only seen one before this & that was collected by david when he came up from jersey. It was alot larger then these are. I've had them since May 12th. They're about an 1 1/4" in length. They've taken to frozen bloodworms well. I was teaching her about all the things you can find under rocks in the stream. Enjoy the pics. By the looks of it she had a great time. She, like david, loves crayfish.

I love mottled sculpins. They are very easy to care for, have personality, and are rather handsome. I've got 4 that I am getting ready for aquarium life and then they are off to a display at a local kids science museum. They are about 6 inches away from my computer right now, and are all lined up staring at me waiting for their blood worms.
Good job getting your daughter out and turning over rocks. Even if thier life goes in another direction, like mine did, they will remember these times fondly.

We get them at the plant here in So. Cal.
I keep them with my Blue Gills. They have no problem eating from my hand. Very interesting critters.
I have found that if I have more than 1 in a tank they need their own hiding places.
