Monster from california help?

Washed up on pismo beach california. In my entire life I've never seen anything like it. I don't even know if it's native. Just my luck it's washed up from Japan! Was found while visiting relatives. Barrowed their pass to get a sence of scale.

That's a Lancetfish.
Worldwide distribution, not rare, but rarely seen. They are deep water fish, squid eaters, but will come up to diving/kayak fishing level. They wash up on Pacific coast beaches from time to time. Every now and then somebody catches one while fishing for rock cod, tries to clean it, learns that they are made out of gooey mush.
