Saw this last weekend while dinning in the outer banks of NC.

Either a bad bowfin mount or snakehead. The only bowfins I've seen while searching either lacked markings on their flanks or they were mottled not banded like that one.

Yeah, looks like a bad bowfin. Unless there is a similar saltwater fish that I am missing.

I would say snakehead. Flat head, large forward eye, dorsal fin starting above pectoral fin, pelvic fins right below pectoral fins. A good look at the anal fin would be definative. A snakehead has a long base on the anal fin, the bowfin short.

An invassive,interesting. The place had a fresh and salt water decor.
