Hey everyone, Name is John. I was referred here from a member on another board about some native plants that I was wondering the name of. Since then I figured out the name of them but am still glad I came here as I have been interest in keeping native species but didn't know where to start? It looks like I have found that starting point here. I am from Cleveland and would love to be able to know what my options are. I have a 55 gallon tank that I want to turn into a native tank. Any advice or suggestion would be great!
Thanks,
John

I lived in Cleveland the first 22 years of my life. yay Cleveland :)
My advice is to check out Ohio's DNR webpage for species you like. They have a ridiculously awesome page compared to the other states with color photos. Probably because Brian Zimmerman is in Ohio and the awesome rubbed off.

Tennessee as I remember has some interesting laws so if you're thinking of fishing there, step 1 is to look up whether or not you can. http://forum.nanfa.o...anges-for-2010/

Tennessee just closed their "bait" collecting loophole (unless you like keeping golden shiners and bluntnose minnows and similar spp] and will essentially be off limits to non-scientific collecting.

Relevant regs are online here: http://pub.jfgriffin...fgriffin/10TNFW

No possession outside of point of capture seems pretty clear-cut to me.

oooh, that makes much more sense.

Hi John...
Yes the Tennessee laws are very restrictive. A good alternative is to get in the water with the fish. We have a tremendous amount of clear water opportunities to experience these amazing fish in their natural habitat... impossible habitats to reproduce in a glass rectangle. I lead snorkeling trips for the Cherokee National Forrest and you are welcome to go along on a trip as my guest. Not far from Cleveland Tennessee, a loooong way from that other Cleveland.
:)
You missed a good chance at meeting some fellow fishheads last month during TN's Free Fishing Day. I organized a 3 day outing you would have been welcome to attend, if you joined NANFA.

You can call me anytime as i am NANFA's TN rep.

Yep am about 30 mins Northeast of Chattanooga. After I posted this the other day I saw the discussion on here about the regulation change in Tennessee. Thanks for the
links I will do some more reading.

Thanks Casper, I saw the post where y'all had that trip and wished I had seen it sooner as I would have loved to have been there.

I know some nice snorkeling locations in your area too, although I'm sure I've either communicated them to Casper in the past or he has been to them by now.

I have never been snorkeling before and think it would be a great experience for me. Will definitely have to some time. The only bad thing is work. Right now we are slammed and working 6 to 7 days a week so finding time might be a hard thing to do but will have to get more info on where to go for sure. Thanks!
