My name is Chad and I'm in central VA. I started keeping a pair of Jack Dempseys about 4 years ago and have been an avid angler for about 7 years, mostly targeting LMB in lakes and ponds. I bought a minnow pot years ago when my wife (girlfriend at the time) went on a camping trip to collect bait for catfishing, as that is what she likes to fish for. I found it interesting that all I was getting in my pot was bluegill and yellow perch, so after the camping trip I thought it would be cool to throw this thing in different bodies of water near my house. What fun I have had! It's amazing what can be found in even the smallest of stagnant ponds. I have actually had more success when not baiting the trap. I look forward to reading about all the native fishes here at NANFA.

Welcome Chad. We had the annual convention in Roanoke VA last year. There are some AWESOME fish in your state. You should try seining & dipnetting instead of just using a trap. I'm not sure if there is a photo review of last years convention or not, but it was great. It's time to move those Dempseys out and native fish in

It's true; he does give very good presentations. I saw his salamander presentation, where he told us where to find them, about their life cycles, how to keep them alive in captivity, and even brought some of his own salamanders for the audience to take home.Word around town is that Gerald puts on some very good presentations, so I am sure it would be worth the trip.
