They are very healthy and fat...but they are really stand out in the crowd when shoaling with other normal-colored bluegills.

None of them have any wounds on them. All are pure bluegills as all of them have a blotch on the dorsal fin. The ears are full black....so there's no hint of the hybridizing in them.
They are very healthy and fat...but they are really stand out in the crowd when shoaling with other normal-colored bluegills.
They stand out? So you can selectively fish for them? Fantastic! Catch me one!
Just kidding, of course, but it would be great if you could find someone to keep these in the aquarium for a while, see if there's anything else peculiar about these guys. There are a couple of similar threads floating around the forum here so this is not unheard of.
I thought that this guy's marks: http://forum.nanfa.o...attach_id=12763 resembled the healed wounds of the goldfish on this page (scroll down under "Ollie Owl"): http://aqualandpetsp...h Predators.htm , if that helps show why I thought so, but if the fish were perfectly healthy, that is brought into question.
Without further investigation, it is difficult to guess what is going on here.

Noted: all sunfish in the pictures are pure bluegill, no green sunfish in there.
