Two years ago I heard of some very overal blue Blue Gills in the Ohio area, but havent heard anything on them since. I would like to get several dozen YOY for a rearing project.
If anyone here knows of some please post here or PM me.
We are building a greenhouse in the spring for aquaponics and would like to find some of this blue strain for it if possible.

Thanks Tony
Now to get to them, unless someone down there wants to ship some. I suspect it will be spring before I can get down there. Its good to know that there is a population of them. I plan to use Blue Gills for the aqua ponics so might as well have some distinctive and attractive ones.

Contact AZ9 on this forum. He has a line on a strain of extremely fast growing pure bluegills. They may not look any different than run of the mill bluegills, but apparently they GROW!

Do you have to use bluegills? Could you use longears or orangespotteds?

Hi Erica
These are for a small aquaponics op in a new greenhouse this coming spring, I have grown a lot of Lepomis megalotis varieties but want to get a strain that can be distinctive as well as get growth on. Its also frankly a planned fun project .

I am going to be starting a native tank and am starting with just a crawfish, a 1.5" creek chub, and a blue gill. I was wondering how long 10 feeder fish would last?

With a bluegill? About three minutes.

Depends on the size of the gill and feeders

The blue strain / morph is indicative of something wrong where such animals are more prone to infection with epistyllus. If aquaponic rearing desired then go the AZ9 route, they grow almost as fast as mine.
