Sheesh, at this point it is looking like sooner or later I will have asked about every fish that is not a gar, bowfin, lamprey, or other huge and/or 'ancient' fish. Anyhow I am considering turning my 30 gallon into a breeding darter colony tank populated by rainbow darters (I have a 5 gallon on hand for spawning them). I have several questions to ask:
1 - Most importantly, what do I feed the fry? Do I feed infusoria, paramecium, rotifers, or something else?
2 - How many darters can comfortably fit in the tank? (Incidentally it has a footprint of 36 by 12 inches if that helps)
3 - Will an adequately large filter create sufficient current for the darters? I have a marineland emperor filter which pulls off 280 GPH as the main filter, and it will be backed by a 100 GPH aquatech filter from walmart ( they are rather nice for such a cheap filter). Furthermore, they will be assisted by at least 1 airpump, aimed horizontally at an end of the tank so as to further increase flow.
