Quite the microfishing outing in Haliburton, Ontario, I had a few months ago.

I'm still stumped on a few, and have included my best guesses and reasoning behind the guesses.

I'll start with the ones I'm more confident in. There are 6 fish in total. Please correct me or offer suggestions, thanks!

Fish 1

Golden shiner, downturned lateral line and scale-less keel...

Fish 2:

Common shiner. Overall look and body shape looks about right for a common shiner, but the chin is a bit "puffier" than I'm used to.

Fish 3

Hornyhead chub. Spot on tail and general coloration.

Nice photos! Those three IDs look correct. The puffy chin on the common shiner is probably a result of getting caught hook and line.

Fish 4:

I'm really hoping this to be a brassy minnow because of the diffusion of the lateral stripe. However, the mouth shape is a bit off for brassy minnow. I'm really not sure to be honest.

Features: outlined scales, dorsal fin base is darkly pigmented, rounded back.

Fish 5:

Can't figure out a guess for this one. Features: pointed back at origin of dorsal fin, dorsal fin base is not pigmented, herringbone lines.

Fish 6:

I caught this one at night, near shore on a sandy beach area. Looks like a standard bluntnose minnow, but I could (and hoping that I am) be wrong.

I won't be surprised if I'm wrong on some of these, but it never hurts to take a stab at it. Juvenile common shiner, juvenile golden shiner, and bluntnose minnow?

Those would be my guesses too.

Juvenile common shiner (#4),
juvenile golden shiner (#5),
bluntnose minnow (#6)
