Are there any predatory minnows that will eat small fish, etc. that can be in a 55 gallon at a temp of 72 or more? also any suggestions please say where I can buy it online. I can not go fishing for it since it is illegal to keep wild caught fish in California.

Not sure of temperature tolerances, but like other fish, minnows will eat whatever fits in their mouth including other fish. (I have caught fallfish ice fishing using shiners for bait). The challenge will be finding a predatory minnow that doesn't grow too big for a 55/ the ones I know of (creek chub, fallfish, pikeminnows, etc.) are all fairly big.

Definitely chubs. Creek chubs are a great addition and will usually top at around 5-7 inches, though given the right stuff, will grow to 9+.

Mudminnows would be another good choice (Umbra species).

I agree with mudminnows. Or you could maybe go with Pirate Perch, they're a little relaxed than mudminnows from what I've heard, but they are very cool.

I thought pirate perch needed live food. Mudminnows I am not sure about. I like them, but i would also want pirate perch with them. When I said 72+ i meant below 78 but higher than 72. I forgot to put that.

I don't know anyone who has kept mudminnows, and not enjoyed them. They really do act like small pike. One of my favorite fish. The added bonus is that you can keep many other species with them, from shiners, to darters, and even smaller creek chubs and sunfish. Beware the creek chubs. Adults have big mouths, and will eat anything that fit's in.

I was not sure about mudminnows because of my sunfish being about 3-5 inches. I really want them though. Which one would work best?

Central for sure. They are larger, so you can keep a good variety of fish with them, but their mouths are fairly small, so no big worries of predation on most adult minnows, darters etc. As long as you have sunfish with small mouths, the mudminnows, and others will likely be fine.

My largest sunfish has a small mouth and my smallest has a large mouth. My smallest sunfish is a 2 inch warmouth.
