I do know that larger northern pikes will scavenging on winterkill shads quite regularly.

I keep a roadkill kit in the truck. Sometimes I will head to work, and come home the same direction. If I run accross a deer that was not there in the morning, and the weather is cold enough, it only takes about ten minutes to cut the loins out. So carrion is not just for fishes and vultures anymore.
