I wonder if it has a dark spot at the rear of the dorsal, something Greens have.
Body shape is a good split between the roundish Longear and long basslike Green.
Both species have ears trimmed in white.
I don't recall Greens having the wavey rays of blue on their faces.
I figured a Green was extra mean to all nest visitors except for his desired Ms Green. I see the Longears as more peaceful but that is a romantic wish. In the wild they can be quite aggressive and defenders of their nests and will sometimes bite your pinky.
I am curious what those who know have to say.

You example does not look like an F1 hybrid. The only character not typical of greens is the lines on cheaks. Mouth smallish but greens can do that on small critter diet. If hybrid then backcross to green.

In that case, might Ben's fish fish be a longear x pumpkinseed? Where was it caught?
That fish was from a tributary ditch of the Kaskaskia River in Champaign County, IL. I caught an equal mix of pure greens and pure longears at that location. There were a few bluegills mixed in too, but not as many. In theory a pumpkinseed could be there, but it would be extremely unlikely.
