Stonecat Madtom?

I believe I caught it in Brush Creek in southern Ohio. (Sorry, it was taken last year.)

No one is going to be able to ID that unfortunately. It does resemble a catfish.

I actually think it is a small channel cat, did it have a more or less silver body with black spots and a forked tail?

@smbass That's probably it. I asked because stonecats aren't supposed to be in brush creek and it looked like nothing else. Maybe it was a channel cat. It was yellow-ish brown, though. Also I don't think it had a forked tail, not sure, though.

Don't feel bad, we all have a learning curve. Look at the ID forum and see what is considered an Id quality photo. I am also pretty darn sure that I have seen stonecat in brush creek, though it may have been Scioto brush.

Any of the three most likely options are found throughout the state and would be in both Scioto Brush and Ohio Brush Creeks. Those three would be Channel Cat, Stonecat, or Yellow bullhead. I have never seen someone catch a stonecat hook and line but I'm sure it is possible but I think the other two are more likely.

I know few people have caught some stonecat hook and line while fishing for trout, especially in the streams where it contains no bullhead or catfish species.
