I got out yesterday with some members of the CAAS for some collecting in the Catawba drainage just west of Lake Norman in NC. We did quite nicely. The streams were all similar so I won't describe them all. They were sandy/gravel bottomed with good clear water. There were sections of riffles with rather large rocks and good pools.

Here is the species list:

Redlip shiner, Notropis chiliticus
Greenhead shiner, Notropis chlorocephalus
Spottail shiner, Notropis hudsonius
Sandbar shiner, Notropis scepticus
Whitefin shiner, Cyprinella nivea
Greenfin shiner, Cyprinella chloristia
Rosyside dace, Clinostomus funduloides
Golden shiner, Notemigonus crysoleucas
Bluehead chub, Nocomis leptocephalus
Creek chub, Semotilus atromaculatus
Striped jumprock, Scartomyzon rupiscartes
Seagreen darter, Etheostoma thallasinum
Tesselated darter, Etheostoma olmstedi
Fantail darter, Etheostoma flaballere
Redbreast, Lepomis auritus
Largemouth bass, Micropterus salmoides
Speckled killifish, Fundulus rathbuni

Ooooh dats a very pretty seagreen darter. Looks like you got a golden shiner too, not on your species list.
Did you see any that looked like probable redlip x greenhead hybrids ??

Nice fish list and great pics!
Did you get a new camera? I ask since they seem larger than other photos of yours.

Great pics, although the fish look a little color-washed, were they left in the bucket for awhile?

Bet its WBS. White bucket syndrome. They are talking about closing the North Carolina borders because of it.

It can easily be combated by putting the fish in a black bucket before pics or even just a little gravel on the bottom of the bucket will do the trick.

Thanks for reminding me of the golden. I'm not sure how I forgot seeing as how I had a picture. I am not certain as to whther we saw any greenhead x redlips. The greenhead is such a nondescript fish when not in color and the redlip is very nice no matter when you get it. What would I have needed to look for to make the determination as to whther they were hybrids? I did not see any that made me suspicious.

Thanks for the WBS advice guys. I was in a hurry and, yes, I was using a white bucket. I will try to do better next time.
