My uncle and myself went out collecting today. Our main focus was for turtles, not fish, but being in good habitat I decided to mix it up a little bit. Short list, but here it is:

On the fish side:

Eastern Mudminnow - Umbra pygmaea
Redfin Pickerel - Esox americanus americanus
Margined Madtom - Noturus insignis
Mosquitofish - Gambusia affinis
Bluegill - Lepomuis macrochirus
Spotted Sunfish - Lepomis punctatus
BandedPygmy Sunfish - Elassoma zonatum
Tesselated Darter - Etheostoma olmstedi

On the reptile side:

Snapping Turtle - Chelydra serpentina
Yellowbelly Slider - Trachemys scripta scripta
River Cooter - Pseudemys concinna concinna
Stinkpot - Sternotherus odoratus odoratus

The target species of the day, the spotted turtle - Clemmys guttata - proved itself stealthy. The banded pygmies were quite impressive, all the males were colored up and the females were slammed with babies. Mosquitofish were everywhere to be seen as usual and loaded with babies themselves. The trip was time consuming, though small, only covering about a quarter mile drainage area off of the Edisto River. Next time I will bring more people and more nets. I will see what I can't do about posting some pictures later on tonight or tomorrow.
