Hello. I was wondering how fast certain species grow. The ones I'm wondering about are white crappie, warmouth, bluegills, and black crappie.

What size a white crappie has to be to be in the same tank as a 7-8in bullhead catfish?

7-8 inches?

or maybe length is not the answer... the answer is the shortest dimension on the crappie has to be bigger than the gape width of the bullhead...

first rule of catfish: if it fits, it goes in

Yeah, Michael's right. My 4.5" stonecat has decimated my spotfins, many of which I thought were too long. I found out the hard way that it's not the length of the fish, it's the "height". Or whatever the technical term for the measurement from the spine to the belly is.

It is also quite possible for a catfish to eat something too large resulting in two dead fish.

Agreed. Cats will eat anything they even think they can. It's not a native but I have a 3" asian bumblebee catfish (fairly small mouth) that downed a 2" longfin pleco!

It depends on how much you feed them, the size of the tank or pond, and how many other fish you are keeping. You can grow them as fast or slow as you like.

My son currently has a 4" redbreast with a 6" bullhead, with no issues, so I would say as long at the crappie doesn't fit in the bullheads mouth you would be probably be fine.

He tried putting a 4" chub in, but lost it to aggression, we didn't see it, but we assume it was because it did fit in the bullheads mouth.

It will be in a 20 gallon until it is large enough. It is the only size aquarium I have other than the 150. I will be feeding them 1-2 times a day with bloodworms, beefheart, krill, and/or freshwater frenzy. There are a couple of old fathead minnows with it. I will also have a black common goldfish in there that will also go into the 150. The filter is for a 45-50 gallon aquarium, so the have some filtration.
