I'm going to be in the Wilmington/Southport area a week from Monday. Anybody want to go collecting that afternoon, or have suggestions for a nice place to spend some time?
I probably don't want to keep any fish unless there's something really interesting (a small fat sleeper is the only one off the top of my head), but I might be interested in plants.

Carolina Beach State Park, Fort Fisher Rec Area, Greenfield Lake, Orton Plantation -- I'll bet Fritz or Moontanman can suggest others.
Lake Waccamaw and Green Swamp Preserve are 35 mi west of Wilmington. Have fun and I hope you get good weather.

Greenfield Lake is probably the most productive for plants but fat sleepers are going to require a bit of searching, the stream that flows out of Greenfield lake might have them, there is a small stream called Mott creek that has them in reasonable numbers, there is a ditch near where south Carolina avenue intersects with Burnett BLVD that has them as well.
