Wow. Tough question.

The Pteronotropis species are the ones which got me interested in natives, and I still love them, but I find other sorts of fish also have much to offer.

Darters have lots of personality. Pygmy Sunnies are cute as all get-out. My American Flag Fish are spawning as I type this, and it's cool how they can spawn in different ways to adapt to their current situation. Luxilus shiners have tons of pizzazz, and in breeding color they rival anything on a coral reef.

I could never choose a favorite.

It's easy..my favorite is flagfin shiners, no blue nose shiners, no orangespotted sunfish, or splendid darter, oh wait fieryblacks oh no diamond killies.

Never mind you're right can't choose!

For me, it'd have to be a tie between longear sunfish and darters in general. Both have personality, and both are excellent fish to show people. Most people have no idea what gorgeous fish are living in the rivers around here.

I was one of those people that had no idea of the variety of colorful fish in my area. I remember being caught off guard when I became a NANFA member last year and learning what a rainbow darter was. I had only fished rod & reel and caught little bass and bluegills in the local streams so I just assumed everything was shades of brown and green. I always get a kick out of showing people my longears and seeing the looks on their faces when I tell them that we have them locally.
