caught this in a canal near New Orleans.  I have seen gar, grass carp, bass and catfish in this canal.  It is close to Lake Ponchatrain.  Is this a type of Pygmy Sunfish?  Sorry for the bad pics, I'm not a professional with my iPhone yet.

Looks like a sheepshead minnow, Cyprinodon variegatus.
