Was at the local pond just havin some fun with an old butterfly net (still contemplating buying "the perfect dipnet") and caught this little guy

No idea what it was but they were in a small section with various large sunfish and bass im guessing it was a spawning site as each sunfish had its own place it was guarding, i could make out some large pumkinseed maybe this is a offspring? , but i read at this size their very hard to ID

I don't think its a pumpkinseed. Those juveniles have a very conspicuous spotted pattern on their sides. This looks more like a bluegill to me but based on distribution it could also be a redbreast. I cant really tell but it looks like there's a black margin on the rear of the soft dorsal so most likely bluegill.

Pretty little bluegill, alright. I've seen plenty. Tail's a bit long, but the colors are definitely bluegill.
