We humans are fascinated by and with color.  Because of this we sometimes miss out on the patterns and subtle gradations that nature gives us.

Like this hunting Bronze Darter.

Or the repeats on this male Holiday Darter.

Or how this female Holiday Darter blends into her environment.

But then again there's this male Greenbreast Darter,

apparently female Greenbreast Darters fascinated by color too.

Very nice; 'Ansel Adams' approach to darter photography.  You're right, I did find myself being drawn more toward the patterns and details in the grey sale photos.  The way my attention was immediately captured by the color of the Greenbreast in the final photo really proves it.  Must be why I'm usually noticing the pattern design on fish like rock bass that lack the vibrant colors.  Both types of your photos here really capture the beauty of living artwork in different ways.  Thank you for sharing.

Excellent work as always. And I am glad to be made to re-examine things occasionally. B&W always does that. It makes me look closer and not assume.

I am glad to see the world in a broad spectrum of radiant color.

Neat idea Bryce, and nice photos - especially that greenbreast.
