NANFA is having a booth again this year at Aquatic Experience at the Schaumburg Convention Center west of Chicago, IL. The event will be on Friday, November 4 from 12 to 6 p.m., Saturday, November 5 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday, November 6 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. More information is available at their website at aquaticexperience.org.

I have attended this event repeatedly since its start several years ago. Last year, I was very impressed on how much it has progressed. It has become a very large event with impressive displays from dealers in tropical fish and invertebrates, plants, and equipment. Perhaps the most impressive to me last year was a very long fish tank with a variety of fish and plants.

If you live nearby or can be in the area, this is a great event and should not be missed.

Finally a good reason to want to be rich.

I'd design my house around something like that. And re-engineer it a bit to allow indoor snorkeling.

Aquatic Experience

Aquatic Experience will be held this fall at the Schaumburg Convention Center west of Chicago, IL. The event will be on Friday, November 3 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday, November 4 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday, November 5 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. More information is available at their website at aquaticexperience.org.

NANFA will be once again having an informational booth at this event. Mike Berg, Indiana Regional Rep, and Phil Nixon, Convention Auctioneer, are organizing our presence, and we are looking for assistance from others. Respond to this thread or directly to Phil at pnixon@illinois.edu if you are interested in helping staff the booth. The booth is staffed during all of the above show hours.

I have attended this event repeatedly since its start several years ago.  It has become a very large event with impressive displays from dealers in tropical fish and invertebrates, plants, and equipment for both freshwater and saltwater. There are also free sea lion shows on the show floor.

Perhaps the most impressive to me last year were the competitive shows for aquarium plant set-ups, shrimp, and cichlids. Contests this coming year include those by the American Cichlid Association, Aquatic Gardeners Association, International Shrimp Contest USA, and Kid’s Aquarium Contest.

There will be a variety of booths by manufacturers of equipment, fish breeders, and plant growers. There will be at least 124 exhibitors this year. Last year, I was very impressed with several booths selling tremendous varieties of aquarium fish, shrimp, and plants. Many of which I had not seen before. Their prices were very reasonable.

I purchased several types of plants, particularly some for a palidarium we had recently set up. The sellers were very helpful with information on mature size and proper growing conditions. The plants did well in my tanks.

There were numerous manufacturers of light systems with booths showing their equipment allowing one to compare the appearance, light color, and light intensity of various units. I was impressed with others displaying new types of filters, different materials for tank landscaping, and medications. Some booths were selling their products, while others directed me to retail booths that did sell them.

There were several fish food booths with many giving away free samples of their products. That provides a great opportunity to try out various foods to see how you and the fish like them without spending a lot of money on food you end up not using.

The next Aquatic Experience will be on October 19-21, 2018 in the Meadowlands Exposition Center, Secaucus, New Jersey. Mike Berg and I will not be traveling from Indiana and Illinois to provide and staff a NANFA booth, but we are willing to provide information to members in that area who want to take it on. As you can tell in the above photo, it doesn't take much. We used a banner, fish photos, back issues of American Currents, and NANFA calendars for our display. We handed out NANFA application forms to passersby who showed interest in us.

Booth space is provided free to non-profit organizations that promote Aquatic Experience via social media and other avenues. I did this through announcements on the NANFA forum as well as articles and announcements in the newsletters and facebook accounts of area fish clubs. These included Champaign Area Fish Exchange, Champaign, IL; Missouri Aquarium Society Inc., St. Louis, MO; and Circle City Aquarium Club, Indianapolis, IN. I used essentially the same information for each aquarium club, which are those where I am a member or had solid contacts. Aquatic Experience provides articles and announcements for this use.
