I believe these are juvenile Bluefish. Large mouth and teeth. Emerald+Isle_+North+Carolina+_15_.JPG

There were lots of Mummichog and Sheepshead Minnows. Striped Mullet were taken with cast nets. Emerald+Isle_+North+Carolina+_39_.JPG

Definitely bluefish. 

 

 

I know exactly where you took these photos, It's the boat ramp behind the church. Did you fish in those ponds next to the ramp? The northern most population of sailfin mollies were collected right there.

Yep, that's the spot. I didn't try the ponds darn it.

Haha, I met up with an old Marine buddy and we needed bait because he wanted to fish. So, I had an excuse to get my waders and nets out...

Are these mollies native to there?  Or were they introduced?

Although I've not sequenced them, I'm fairly confident that they are native. The northernmost reported populations are in the Cape Fear basin, roughly two hours south, but I've encountered them in the summer in a few places between Emerald Isle and the Cape Fear basin. They are interesting for their cold tolerance, and for the fact that I've never found any large, "sailfin" males here, only smaller, less impressive guys.
